In October 2019, when Billy Milam took the helm as CEO of Hire Dynamics, it might have seemed a surprising choice following a 22-year career at convenience store company RaceTrac. He recalls, “It felt like a way to challenge myself outside of my comfort zone, but more importantly, an opportunity to serve a growing company in a meaningful way, within a people–focused culture.”
Just a year and a half later, Milam has been named to the SIA Staffing 100, a list of the industry’s most influential leaders. He was also recognized as a 2020 Most Admired CEO by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Billy’s first task as CEO was ensuring a successful integration of the Trace Staffing acquisition, which expanded the company to 46 branches across Georgia and the Carolinas and significantly increased the employee count.
Just as this sizable effort was completed, COVID-19 struck, making business as usual impossible. Without hesitation, Milam and the leadership team showed authentic servant leadership by communicating frequently and transparently, with a calm confidence. The result was accelerated growth as the economy recovered from the effects of the pandemic.
These included drive-through hiring fairs, an aggressive company-wide hiring event called HirePalooza, and increased use of their proprietary Work4HD app. All inventive approaches that streamlined the application and onboarding processes even as they enabled socially distant and safe hiring.
Under Milam’s leadership, HD teams also launched creative, value-added services for clients including virtual roundtables in which manufacturing and supply chain employers collaborated to find and share safe and healthy solutions to the multiple challenges they were facing.
In a November 2020 interview with the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Milam shared how his leadership style empowers teams to respond creatively to challenges, “We believe deeply in highly visible leadership. Our senior leaders are constantly in the field shoulder to shoulder with our teams, as well as constantly and consistently communicating with all levels of our organization. So many of our most critical and strategic decisions are crafted and shaped by our team trusting us by providing timely feedback – the good, as well as the feedback that might be tough to hear.”
